1) Read the rule book 2) Memorize the hand signals 3) Do the two quizzes linked below Then attend the Sunday Sep 14 class: September 14, 2014 9 am to 1 pm Bayview YMCA 1601 Lane St, San Francisco, CA 94124 Instructor: Carol Rose
Carol Rose is the US representative for the World UW Federation; is on the underwater hockey commission of CMAS and an international referee for World UW Hockey, as well as the president of the Underwater Society of America. Carol is the author of How to Start UW Hockey.
Class is open to all UWH players, coaches and parents. The instructor requested that all attendants read the UWH Rule book.
The instructor has provided her slides so people can have them in their electronic device while she speaks. I also posted a summary of the hand signals and inserted a quiz to test your knowledge. After reading the rules and reviewing the signals, take the two quizzes below. If you get 3/4 of the answers right, you are in good shape for the class (the webpages will grade them for you). If you get less, go back to study and take the quizzes again the next day. If you are an experienced player and referee, you may nonetheless want to test your knowledge. I took the hand signals quiz, thinking I'd get them right, and got 74%. Back to studying!
The class will serve as an official class component of a Level 1 referee certification. To complete your certification you will need to referee a stipulated number of games at USOA UWH tournaments like PCC's and Nationals.

Underwater Hockey Australia - Rules quiz (Ignore the question about "Ideal dimensions of playing area"). Hand signals quiz: it asks for name and email, but works fine with bogus info, e.g. blah@example.com. |
